Your first physical therapy visit will involve:

1. A detailed history taking and a thorough musculoskeletal assessment. This may include: strength testing, range of motion testing, movement analysis, postural analysis, and more. This also may include an internal pelvic floor exam if indicated.

2. Education about what the exam revealed and how these findings contribute to your diagnosis. You will be educated on the diagnosis itself and what the physical therapy plan of care entails.

3. You will receive an initial home management program that may include exercises, activity modification, and self treatment strategies.

Please provide 24 hours advance notice if you are not able to attend your appointment. To do this, you can call, email, or text Sage Physical Therapy. You will receive a confirmation of your cancellation via your contact method. If you do not provide 24 hours advance notice, you will be charged a late cancellation fee.

You should wear whatever you are comfortable in! You should be able to move in whatever outfit you choose, as you may be asked to perform various motions and exercises as part of your visit.

No. Colorado is a direct access state, meaning you do not need a referral for physical therapy if you have a private insurance or are not utilizing your insurance.

Most people are seen at Sage Physical Therapy for 4-8 visits lasting 8-16 weeks. This allows you to make lasting changes that will be with you for the long run. Depending on the person and the factors contributing to their issues, the duration may be shorter or longer.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that lies internal and external to the pelvis. The best way to test their function is with an internal exam. This may be a vaginal or a rectal exam depending on the diagnosis. The goal of an internal exam is to assess the function of the muscles including strength, endurance, power, tightness, motor control, and coordination. This allows your physical therapist to identify any impairments in the pelvic floor that may be contributing to your issue and to prescribe exercises or management strategies to address these impairments. There are no stirrups or speculums involved, and your physical therapist will always communicate what is happening and can stop at any time.
